  • Know when to replace your tires: The lifespan of a tire depends on various factors, such as the quality of the tire, driving conditions, and frequency of use. Generally, most tires will last between 25,000 to 50,000 kilometers. However, it's important to check your tires regularly for signs of wear and tear, such as cracks, bulges, or uneven tread wear. If you notice any of these signs, it may be time to replace your tires.

  • Choose the right type of tire: There are various types of tires available in the market, such as all-season, summer, winter, and performance tires. Make sure to choose the right type of tire for your vehicle and driving conditions. For example, if you live in an area with harsh winter weather, you may need to invest in winter tires that provide better traction on snow and ice.

Car Truck & SUV Tires For All Seasons

All Season Tires

All season tires and all weather tires are not the same. All weather tires are preferred to all season tires if you drive in any form of winter weather, or even slightly below freezing temperatures. All weather tires have passed the Transport Canada “snow/winter” tire test. Rather than all season tires, they can be left on your vehicle all year long (yup, even winter). All season tires for cars trucks and SUV were designed to handle mild winter conditions, and are not "certified" for winter driving. When temperatures drop, so does their grip.

All Weather Tires

All weather tires for cars trucks and SUV are appropriate for mild winter conditions and light snowfall. All weather tires have also passed snow traction tests for winter performance in extreme situations. Apart from all season tires, all weather tires stay soft and provide traction at temperatures above and below 7 degrees Celsius. This makes all weather tires popular year-round and through Canadian winters. All weather tires don't perform as well as winter tires in hard-packed snow and ice, but they outperform all season tires in winter conditions and are a suitable option to keep installed year-round.

Winter Tires (Snow Tires)

Winter tires for ice, snow, slush, and cold provide greater braking, cornering and traction. Winter tires stays soft and pliable in temperatures below 7 degrees Celsius, as well as aggressive tread to "bite" snow and ice. Winter tires give the most reliable performance and safety while dealing with freezing temperatures and heavy, hard-packed snow. You get improved traction, braking and cornering on snow and ice throughout the life of your winter tire.

Summer Tires (3 Season Tires)

Some refer to these as "all-season" tires, but our tire shop refers to them as "three-season" tires because they work well only in the spring, summer, and fall. In warmer weather, 3-season tires provide dependable braking in both wet and dry conditions, as well as a quiet, pleasant ride and good fuel economy. 3 season tires often contain a tougher rubber compound, which loses grip at 7 degrees Celsius, to provide them a longer tread life. In the winter, the grooves in the tread pattern tend to clog with ice, snow and slush, resulting in a slick surface and lack performance during winter.

Performance Tires (Low Profile)

Performance summer tires will improve the handling and appearance of your vehicle. During the summer, the lower profile and firm sidewall give your car better traction, handling turns and high-speed stability. For drivers who prefer precise handling and ride comfort, performance tires are a wonderful option. They outperform 3 season tires in terms of braking and cornering, but they're not as rigid as ultra-high performance tires making for a more comfortable and fun drive.

All Terrain Tires

For drivers who use their vehicles both on and off road, all terrain tires are a terrific option. All terrain tires have a little more aggressive tread design that digs into rough and sandy terrain and channels water away for excellent off road performance. An added advantage of off road tires is you'll enjoy a smooth, quiet drive with good steering reaction on the road.

Of course, it's not as simple as just buying a set of winter tires and throwing them on your wheels. To ensure the safety and performance of your vehicle there are a few things to consider.

One of them being winter tires vs all weather tires vs all season tires... whats better?

If you live somewhere where temperatures can drop to less than 7°C and fair share of snow, winter tires are for you. Otherwise, an all-season tire could be the perfect choice for year round driving because it offers great performance in both winter and summer conditions.

If your passenger car is front-wheel drive and budget is your main concern, the best solution is to use a winter tire on just the front axle; this ensures that you get the most out of your tires.

Why Install Snow Tires?

As with every cold season approaching, a decision for most drivers is to install winter tires. According to stats, roughly 30 - 40% of drivers don't install winter tires and that could create problems driving in the snow. If you've ever driven with snow tires versus all-season or even summer tires, you can actually feel the difference and benefits of having winter tires.

Some drivers believe all-season tires are equipped for winter and snow driving. Others feel winter tires are too expensive.

When it comes to "all-season" or “all-weather” tires, they are simply not adequate for harsh winters, perhaps all season tires will be enough if you live in Florida, but not for winters we experience in Canada.

So how much do winter tires cost? Depending on brand and size the typical cost for a winter tire ranges between $85 to $320 per tire. If your plan is to keep your vehicle for years to come, it’s a good idea to install winter rims and tires ready for each winter season. This will actually save you in the long run.

If you live or anywhere across Ontario, we suggest installing winter tires. If you live in Quebec and parts of British Columbia, winter tires are mandatory between the winter months.

Studded tires, where permitted are another option for Ontarians. Perfect for icy and hard-packed snow conditions, especially if you live or travel truly north in winter.

Benefits of Winter Tires

If you're thinking about purchasing winter tires, here's a few benefits of installing snow tires on your vehicle:

  • Collision prevention

  • Lower insurance premiums

  • Traction in the snow you can actually notice

  • Saves you on replacement tires over the long-term

  • Winter tire traction in the cold gets you an improvement of 60 feet in stopping distance @ 50 km per hour

  • Winter tires are also for the cold roads not just the snow

  • Winter tires cost less than collision repair

The best time to install winter tires is when the temperature hits 7 degrees Celsius or below - and ideally before the first snow hits the ground.
